Privacy Policy
Contour is an indoor cycling app for iPhone and iPad. It lets you ride GPX routes on a smart trainer, control resistance over Bluetooth, and save completed workouts to Apple Health when you choose to do so.
Contour does not require an account.
Data Stored On Your Device
Contour stores app settings and local ride setup data on your device, including:
- Your unit preference
- FTP, max heart rate, ride difficulty, and related app settings
- The last selected route
- Imported GPX route files
- Paired Bluetooth device identifiers used for reconnecting your trainer, optional shifter, and optional heart-rate monitor
This data is used to make the app work and to reconnect your devices quickly.
Apple Health
Contour can save indoor cycling workouts to Apple Health after you finish a ride or workout and tap Save to Health.
Saved workouts may include duration, distance when available, energy, power samples, heart rate samples when available, and workout metadata supported by HealthKit.
With your permission, Contour reads one value from Apple Health: your body weight, used on-device to calibrate climbing resistance. You can decline and enter a weight manually in Settings instead. Contour reads no other Apple Health data, and your weight never leaves your device.
Bluetooth
Contour uses Bluetooth to connect to your smart trainer, optional shifting controller, and optional heart-rate monitor.
Bluetooth device identifiers and names are used locally for discovery, connection, and diagnostics. Contour does not upload your Bluetooth diagnostic log automatically. If you ask for support, you may choose to copy and send that log manually.
Routes And Location Data
Contour imports GPX route files that you choose from Files, the share sheet, or starter routes bundled with the app.
Contour does not upload your GPX files, route names, route coordinates, or route history as analytics. Routes stay on your device unless you manually share them outside the app.
Workout Descriptions, Dictation, And Music Prompts
Before the first cloud-backed action, Contour asks for your consent. When you create or refine a workout, Contour sends the workout text you enter through Contour's service to OpenRouter and Google. Music matching sends your music prompt and the workout's interval shape through the same services. Dictation sends the audio clip through Contour and OpenRouter to Alibaba for transcription, with on-device Apple Speech as a fallback.
Contour's server stores no prompts, transcripts, or audio, logs only request timing and counts (never content), and has no accounts or user identifiers to link a request to you. OpenRouter prompt logging is disabled. Contour restricts providers from using this content to train AI. Workout and music requests use zero-data-retention processing. Dictated audio may be retained temporarily by the transcription provider for security, abuse prevention, or legal compliance, but not for AI training.
You can withdraw consent in Settings. Manual workout building, importing, and riding continue to work without it.
Workout prompts, dictation transcripts, and audio are never sent to Contour analytics.
Apple Music
Music-matched workouts are optional and use Apple's MusicKit with your permission. Song search and playback require an active Apple Music subscription and run through Apple. Contour keeps song annotations (tempo and energy characteristics of catalog tracks) in an anonymous server-side cache keyed by track identifier; this cache contains no information about you or your listening. Contour does not read or store your music library or listening history.
Analytics
Contour uses privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate product usage and improve the app.
Analytics may include:
- App opened
- Onboarding step viewed, completed, or skipped
- Route import succeeded or failed
- Ride or workout started, completed, or discarded
- Health save succeeded or failed
- Coarse app settings used to understand product behavior, such as ride difficulty or trainer-only load percentage
- Paywall viewed and subscription plan selected
- Purchase started, completed, failed, or restored (which plan, not payment details)
- Free trial started or ended
Analytics do not include:
- Route names
- Exact coordinates
- GPX file contents
- Apple Health data
- Power, cadence, heart-rate, speed, or workout streams
- Rider weight, FTP, max heart rate, or trainer profile data
- Dictation text or workout prompts
- Bluetooth diagnostic logs
- Your name, card, or other payment information
Analytics are not used for tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
Purchases
Contour is free to download and includes a 5-day free trial. After the trial, continued use requires Contour Pro, available as an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or annual) or a one-time lifetime purchase.
All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Contour does not collect, receive, or store your name, card, or other payment information. The free trial is tracked on your device and does not require an account.
